Surviving a 7.3 Magnitude Earthquake

Published on September 3, 2009 by in Uncategorized

Yesterday was really a ‘big’ day for me because my hosting was down and I couldn’t do anything with my blogs. And then the worse thing happened, all of a sudden I heard noises all around my house, the floor was trembling – I could feel as if something was moving down there – and the walls were shaking heavily followed by collapsing objects to the floor. It took me a few seconds to realize that we were facing a powerful earthquake. I quickly grabbed my youngest son and shouted to my wife and our eldest son to run outside as soon as possible. When we reached there we found some of our neighbors – all women – standing and trembling in panic look. My wife was cooking when the earthquake rattled our neighborhood so I had to sneak inside the house to turn the stove off once the earthquake intensity decreased.

After leaving the kitchen I decided to save some of our valuable items. I could only think to save my laptop because all of my works were there. My wife followed me and she collected our cell phones, documents and wallets and put them in my car (you see, a man need a woman to take care of the financial matter even in the worst situation like this :D ) while I was thinking to secure my electric guitar and amplifier …….

And then the earthquake struck again – of course before I managed to grab my electric guitar. I quickly ran to my car, drove it to a square and parked there waiting for the earthquake to stop. What a great experience!

Local tsunami warnings were issued for coastal areas within several hundred kilometres of the quake’s epicentre soon after it struck, but were withdrawn about half an hour later.

After the earthquake’s gone we checked our house and quite surprisingly we didn’t find any major damages or cracks at all. Thanks God our house survived a 7.3 magnitude earthquake!

A lesson learn from this incident is that I should have an Emergency Response Plan in the house. I used to practice this a lot when I was in the oilfield but I failed to bring it home. Lucky me nothing bad happened.

  1. Rudiawan,

Oh! My gosh! How graphic is that picture!

I am glad you, your family and your home are ok, but sad for those who experienced bad results. It certainly overshadowed your hosting issue.

I can tell you that anything that John Thornhill produces is excellent. I have been in his Mastery Coaching and it is brilliant. He recommended Alex Jeffrey’s Coaching to our Coaching class and I am so glad he did.

I found your postings to be most informative.

I picked up some pearls of wisdom and you have given me food for thought on some areas.

    Cheers,

    Hi Carol,

thank you for your kind words! I guess we have to deal with this earthquake issue more often now. Another 8.0 magnitude earthquake is predicted to happen next and Jakarta shall prepare for the worst situation but I hope we can overcome it.

I think you have all the ammo needed to become a successful IM with both Alex and John coaching programs in hand. Nothing can stop you except your own constraint. Good luck and wishing you the best!

    brgds,

    Rudi

  3. Hi Rudi,

What a story. I’d be really scared in such an earthquake. I felt only two minor ones and that was enough for me.

I’m really glad that your house didn’t suffer any significant damage.

I didn’t know you play the guitar too.

I’ll come back to your blog to check how you’re doing. You’re lucky that I already tagged my 5 fellow Alex Jeffreys Coaching sstudents. Otherwise I’d be tempted to tag you.

    Vance Bro,

I think everybody should be aware of this earthquake issue, especially Indonesian people who are living on the ring of fire. You are lucky having only two minor ones.

Yeah I play guitar bro but only for my church now …

So you were tempted to tag me? Ha ha ha! To tag or not to tag, that’s a different issue, I’m not ready for the game really. Still too many things to do and right now I’m moving my hosting to HostGator.

Thanks for visiting my blog man!

  5. Hi I’m Trevor

I am a student of Alex Jeffreys I have been looking around at fellow students blogs and came across yours. Definitely one of the best. I felt I had to leave a comment because your blog is simply, so inspirational and informative, It has given me hope and ideas to better mine.
It is so clean and fresh looking. I am always worried I overdo it myself, to much content you know. Your blog is just right. I would appreciate if you would pass comment on mine just to confirm I haven’t overdone it. On my blog I am doing a theme on successful internet marketers. Really like to know what you think as I am pretty new to all this layout stuff. I hope one day that I can write about your internet success. Keep up the good work

Hey maybe we could follow each other on twitter.

    Hi Trevor,

thank you for your very encouraging words. I know that you sent this generic post to other Alex Jeffreys’ students as well (thanks to Vance Sova for informing people in the forum). While some people immediately delete your posts I however would like to reply to your comment. People make mistakes and as long as they don’t do the same mistakes again then they deserve forgiveness.

Let us learn from others, how hard their efforts to build their online business, how many long hours they spent commenting other students’ blogs, writing contents, etc.

If you could reply to Vance Sova’s post in the forum and explain why you sent the same comment to other students’ blogs I believe some people will forget what you have done and help you in case you are having some problems.

I’ll visit your blog and follow you on twitter for sure. Don’t delete me :D
